"Implementing Your Individual Development Plan"This workshop will focus on four important steps in planning your Individual Development Plan; to acquaint you with the necessary tools to develop an effective IDP. An Individual Development Plan (IDP) is a written schedule or plan intended to address an employee's career development needs. The IDP consists of a systematic plan for training and developmental experiences by which an employee may improve performance in his/her current line of work, prepare for another line of work, or move into a position of increased responsibility. Instead of chancing time and money on what may or may not be useful learning experiences, the IDP provides the employee and supervisor/manager the opportunity to establish objectives, which support the needs of the organization while meeting the developmental needs of the employee. DOWNLOAD: Implementing your IDP Presentation The IDP is comprised of four steps: Step 1: Preconference Planning Step 2: Employee-Supervisor Conference Step 3: Preparing the IDP Form Step 4: Implementing the Process It is important for the plan to be realistic, considering both the employee's and the supervisor's perspectives. It is also important to remember that the IDP is a fluid document. In other words, the employee's goals and objectives, as well as the manner in which those goals and objectives are attained, can be changed and/or adjusted at any time to meet the needs of both the organization and employee.
